2012 Course Improvements

2011 was the wettest year on record, shattering the old record set over 30 years ago. With over 5 feet of rain in one season as well as a very hot & humid summer, a lot of damage occured in 2011.

Most of the damaged occurred to our Fairways & Cart Paths. Fairway damage was caused by prolonged puddling and hot temperatures. Many of our lower fairways suffered on a greater scale due to multiple & frequent flooding of the Belle River. Our cart paths suffered due to the fact that we were cart path only for most of the season.

We did go through a time where damage occurred to some of our greens and in one instance we came close to losing a green. But in all cases the health of the turf came back and there is no doubt the greens will be in perfect condition for 2012.

So heading into 2012 our two main objectives will be to fix all of the damage on the fairways and regrade all of the cart paths with asphalt.

In order to accomplish this, we have turned to a couple of landscaping companies to come in and help us not only restore Belleview to pre-2011 conditions, but improve it beyond what anybody has known it to be.

Listed below are some of the projects that will be accomplished in the early spring.

• Completely over-seed # 5, 6, 7, 10 & 11 Fairways
• Top up all low lying areas caused by rain damage and then Hydro-seed in the fairways & sod in the rough.
• Re-grade all cart paths and completely fill with asphalt.
• Start a NEW fertilizer program that will greatly improve turf quality and enhance the new turf we will be over-seeding with.

We feel that with these improvements occurring right in the spring, coupled with the 3000 square feet of drainage tile and almost 2 of sod laid down last year. There is no reason Belleview will not enter the 2012 golf season in the best shape of its life! Looking forward to a great 2012!
